We are very proud to announce that a good friend used his genius creative skills to design a logo for us! We couldn’t have come up with something we like nearly half as much ourselves! It’s everything!
We are dedicating this post to Matthew Harrison, awesomely talented freelance graphic designer and photographer! He is a MUST follow on Instagram @matharrison, which some 4K people clearly agree. So we decided to do a little Q&A with the master himself…
Europe or America?
Thanks for throwing me a tough one straight away. If I really must pick, it would be Europe. Though I dream of living in a NYC loft, the romance of a night time stroll through Paris or a shopping trip to Milan is hard to resist. I also love the chic and effortless approach to fashion the Europeans share.
Coffee or tea?
Ask me this a couple of months ago and I would say, hands down, tea. However, my boyfriend has introduced (forcefully) to coffee and now I’m not looking back. I still do enjoy a cup of Aveda liquorice root and peppermint tea every now and then.
Pen and paper or computer?
Though I’d like to say I’m a traditionalist, my skills on a computer far outweigh my ability with pen and paper. That’s not to say I use a computer exclusively, I almost always use pen and paper to plan. However, the things you can do creatively on personal computers never fail to blow my mind.
Top 3 Instagram accounts that you follow?
ONLY 3!!! Well, here we go…
@birdyandme – Kelly Smith is an absolutely incredible illustrator. Her work always takes my breathe away and makes me wish I were an illustrator.
@jaesukkim – Jaesuk Kim is another amazing illustrator. He draws these cute characters called Susu Girls, who are always dressed in the hottest runway fashions.
When did you start your typography?
I started experimenting with typography around the middle of last year. I’d post bits and pieces on Instagram to see what my friends and followers thought. Everyone was so supportive, I decided to spend more time experimenting and posting my results. I still have much to learn but can’t wait to see what I’m creating in the future.
Do your designs involve any hand drawn sketches or do you start and end your creative process on the computer?
With my typographical work, I always begin using brush pens and paper. I then scan my work, tidy it up in illustrator and play around with effects in Photoshop. I really admire designers whose work is perfect without the need for touchups. Blackhouse Studio and Jasmine Dowling both do incredible work with what appears to be very minimal digital editing.
What inspires you?
Can I say the internet or is that too broad? I suppose I’m inspired by creatives, though to go into detail about the specific people I find inspirational would take hours. Those who are trying new things and taking risks, all whilst giving back to the creative community, and society, are my heroes and sources of inspiration. There are also two movies that give me a creative buzz every time I watch them; The September Issue and A Single Man. Seriously, watch both.
Creatively, where would you like to be in 5 years?
In five years time, I’d like to have my own freelance business with a great bunch of core clients. Check back with me to see how I go 😉
